Many women today postpone the idea of starting a family until they are around the age of thirty. Meanwhile, the idea of breast augmentation may cross their minds, but they may be concerned about how surgery and implants might affect the normal functioning of their breasts.
With today’s techniques, women no longer have anything to fear; they can enjoy the results of breast augmentation without worrying about their future babies. Breast implants are not affected by your pregnancy, and vice versa; silicone prostheses retain their shape and stay in place.
APPROACHES TO BREAST AUGMENTATION

Currently, the main approaches for breast augmentation, that is, where the plastic surgeon inserts breast implants, are: through the contour of the areola if it is large enough or through the groove located in the lower part of the breast (submammary groove).
Both options are safe and, in theory, shouldn’t affect breastfeeding. The first option, in which the surgeon makes the incision along the edge of the areola, involves penetrating the mammary gland. In the second option, the mammary gland remains intact because the surgeon acts from behind.
Doctors specializing in Cosmetic Surgery are clear that breast augmentation with implants is safe and does not affect the ability to breastfeed, as we can see in the following diagram. When the breast implant is inserted, it is placed in front of or behind the pectoral muscle, without affecting the mammary gland, which retains its nerve endings and milk ducts. Therefore, any loss of sensitivity is temporary, as in many surgeries, and the ability to breastfeed is maintained.
